The year 2016 marked an important milestone in Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s humanitarian journey, as the organization expanded its charitable outreach through innovative programs designed to support vulnerable individuals and families. Guided by the theme of enriching lives, SLMQ continued to transform compassion into meaningful action, creating opportunities for long-term community empowerment and relief.

A standout achievement of the year was the launch of the Ramadan Bazaar, organized for the first time in Qatar. The event brought together families, volunteers, and supporters in a spirit of generosity and unity. More than a fundraising activity, the Ramadan Bazaar became a platform that strengthened community participation while generating support for charitable causes. The overwhelming response demonstrated the collective commitment of the community to helping those in need.

Beyond the success of the Ramadan Bazaar, SLMQ focused on sustainable assistance programs that could create lasting impact. One notable initiative was the Women’s Livelihood Support Project, implemented in collaboration with Muslim Aid. This project was designed to assist deserving women who were single or widowed breadwinners, providing them with resources and opportunities to enhance their earning capacity. By enabling beneficiaries to establish reliable sources of income, the project promoted dignity, independence, and financial stability for vulnerable households.

The organization also continued its broader commitment to charitable assistance through programs that addressed the needs of disadvantaged families and individuals. These efforts reflected SLMQ’s belief that effective charity should not only provide immediate relief but also create pathways toward self-sufficiency and long-term well-being.

The success of these initiatives was made possible through the generosity of donors, sponsors, volunteers, and well-wishers whose support strengthened SLMQ’s ability to reach those most in need. Their contributions ensured that charitable programs could continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of countless beneficiaries.

As 2016 came to a close, the impact of the Ramadan Bazaar and the Women’s Livelihood Support Project stood as powerful examples of how collective action can uplift communities. Through these initiatives, SLMQ reaffirmed its dedication to humanitarian service, demonstrating that compassion, when combined with purposeful action, has the power to transform lives and create lasting hope for the future.
