The year 2024 reflected Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s continued commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities through meaningful charity and relief initiatives. Guided by the principle of collective responsibility, the organization focused on projects that addressed essential needs and created lasting benefits for those facing challenges in their daily lives.
One of the most impactful initiatives undertaken during the year was the MN/ZAHIRA GMMS School Sanitation Project in Mannar. Recognizing the urgent need for proper sanitation facilities for students and staff, SLMQ initiated plans to construct two new toilet blocks for the school. Access to safe and adequate sanitation is a fundamental requirement for a healthy learning environment, and this project aimed to provide students with greater comfort, dignity, and well-being.
In addition to this effort, SLMQ continued supporting educational institutions in underserved areas through practical assistance. The organization extended aid to Bakinigahawela School, Monaragala, by repairing damaged chairs and tables, helping to improve the learning environment for students and ensuring that essential facilities remained functional and accessible.
The spirit of service was also demonstrated through the Annual Iftar Program 2024, which brought together more than one hundred families during the blessed month of Ramadan. Beyond being a gathering for worship and reflection, the program strengthened the values of generosity, compassion, and community support that lie at the heart of humanitarian work.
These initiatives highlighted SLMQ’s belief that meaningful charity is not limited to emergency assistance alone. By investing in essential infrastructure and supporting communities with practical solutions, the organization contributed toward sustainable improvements that will benefit future generations.
