The year 2003 marked a significant step forward in Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s commitment to community welfare and social responsibility. Building upon the foundation established during its early years, SLMQ expanded its efforts to support vulnerable families, strengthen community bonds, and create meaningful opportunities for Sri Lankan Muslims both in Qatar and Sri Lanka. The organization's welfare initiatives reflected a deep commitment to serving those in need and fostering a spirit of compassion within the community.

One of the most impactful welfare initiatives undertaken during the year was the financial support provided for the salaries of 23 pre-school teachers serving displaced children in the Puttalam district of Sri Lanka. By ensuring the continuity of these teaching positions for an entire year, SLMQ indirectly contributed to the well-being of displaced families and helped sustain an important community service during a challenging period. This initiative demonstrated the organization's dedication to supporting vulnerable communities affected by displacement and hardship.

Another noteworthy humanitarian effort was the provision of financial assistance to families who had lost their breadwinners while working in Qatar. The sudden loss of a family's primary source of income can create immense financial and emotional challenges. Through timely assistance, SLMQ helped affected families navigate difficult circumstances and provided much-needed support during periods of uncertainty and grief.

Community welfare was also strengthened through programmes designed to bring families together and foster social connections. The annual Iftar Gathering during the holy month of Ramadan provided an opportunity for families to meet, share meals, and celebrate the spirit of togetherness. The event reinforced community unity and created a welcoming environment where members could strengthen relationships and support one another.

The organization further enhanced community engagement through the Eid Picnic, which brought together families, children, and members for a day of recreation and social interaction. The event featured a variety of activities that encouraged participation, strengthened friendships, and promoted a sense of belonging among community members. Such gatherings played an important role in maintaining strong social ties within the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Qatar.

A memorable highlight of the year was the successful organization of the Umrah Pilgrimage Programme for families living in Qatar. The initiative provided participants with a valuable opportunity to perform Umrah and visit the holy sites together. Beyond its spiritual significance, the programme strengthened relationships among participants and fostered a deeper sense of unity within the community.

The annual Eid Fiesta Sports Festival also served as an important community welfare activity by encouraging healthy recreation, teamwork, and family participation. Bringing together people of different ages and backgrounds, the event created an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding while promoting an active lifestyle and community engagement.

Throughout 2003, SLMQ continued to witness steady growth in membership, reflecting the trust and confidence placed in the organization by the community. As more families became involved in its activities, the organization was able to strengthen its support network and expand its reach among Sri Lankan Muslims living in Qatar.

The achievements of 2003 demonstrated that community welfare extends beyond financial assistance alone. Through family support programmes, humanitarian aid, community gatherings, recreational activities, and initiatives that brought people together, SLMQ continued to nurture a caring and connected community. These efforts not only provided immediate assistance where needed but also helped build lasting relationships and a stronger foundation for future welfare initiatives.
