The year 2007 was marked by a vibrant blend of religious enrichment, cultural expression, and family participation within the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Qatar. Through a series of well-organized events and gatherings, community members were provided with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Islam, celebrate important religious occasions, and strengthen their cultural identity. These activities fostered a spirit of unity and belonging while creating meaningful experiences for families across generations.

One of the year's most impactful initiatives was the series of Religious Lectures conducted throughout the year. Distinguished scholars addressed a wide range of topics that inspired reflection and strengthened religious awareness among participants. Lectures focusing on the importance of prayer, the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and various aspects of Islamic living attracted enthusiastic audiences. A particularly memorable occasion was the visit of renowned international speaker Dr. Yousuf Estes, whose engaging presentation provided valuable insights and left a lasting impression on attendees.

Religious learning among younger members continued to flourish through the ongoing Qur’an Classes, which entered their sixth consecutive year. These classes played a vital role in nurturing Islamic values and improving Qur’anic recitation skills among children. The annual Qur’an Class Competitions further encouraged students to demonstrate their knowledge and talents in Qur’an recitation, memorization, Islamic speeches, and quizzes. The event showcased the dedication of both students and teachers while promoting a healthy spirit of learning and achievement.

The holy month of Ramadan brought the community together through the annual SLMQ Ifthar, which was held for the sixth consecutive year. Families gathered in an atmosphere of spirituality and gratitude to break their fast collectively. The occasion was enriched by a keynote address delivered by Dr. Bilal Phillips, who spoke on the theme of repentance and personal spiritual growth. The gathering reinforced the values of unity, compassion, and devotion that characterize the blessed month.

Another significant Ramadan event was the Ifthar at the Sri Lankan Embassy, which brought together Sri Lankan Muslims residing in Qatar for an evening of fellowship and reflection. The programme featured a religious lecture delivered by Moulavi Burhan from Sri Lanka and was attended by distinguished guests, making it one of the notable spiritual gatherings of the year. The event strengthened ties among community members while celebrating the shared values of faith and brotherhood.

Religious observances continued with the organization of Eid Prayers at the Sri Lankan Embassy, where members gathered to mark the joyous occasion of Eid. The collective prayers and sermon created a memorable atmosphere of gratitude and celebration, allowing families to share in the spiritual significance of the festival while reinforcing communal bonds.

The year also witnessed cultural engagement through the Annual Cookery Competitions, which brought together families in a celebration of creativity and culinary skills. Participants competed in various categories, showcasing traditional recipes, artistic food presentations, and innovative culinary talents. The event encouraged family participation and highlighted the rich cultural heritage preserved within the community.

A noteworthy milestone in 2007 was the introduction of the Spoken Arabic Course, conducted for members for the first time. The programme provided participants with practical language skills that enhanced their ability to communicate and engage more effectively in their daily lives while fostering a deeper connection with the linguistic heritage of the region.

The community also celebrated its national heritage through the 59th Independence Day Competitions, where children showcased their talents in colouring, drawing, essay writing, and public speaking. The event served as a meaningful platform for younger generations to remain connected to their Sri Lankan roots while expressing creativity and confidence.

Looking back, 2007 was a year distinguished by spiritual growth, cultural pride, and active family participation. Through initiatives such as the Religious Lectures, Qur’an Class Competitions, SLMQ Ifthar, Ifthar at the Sri Lankan Embassy, Eid Prayers, Annual Cookery Competitions, Spoken Arabic Course, and 59th Independence Day Competitions, the community continued to strengthen its commitment to faith, heritage, and unity. These shared experiences enriched the lives of members and further reinforced the values that continue to guide the community’s journey forward.
