The year 2025 marked another significant milestone in Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ)’s commitment to advancing education under the theme “Enduring Challenges & Empowering Communities.” Throughout the year, the organization continued to promote academic excellence, religious learning, skills development, and professional education through a variety of competitions, workshops, seminars, and educational support initiatives.
One of the major educational highlights was the 77th Sri Lankan Independence Day Competition 2025, held at Stafford Sri Lankan School Qatar. The event brought together more than 650 students who participated in categories including Young Writers, Young Speakers, Young Poets, Young Artists, Young Colorists, and Young Masterminds. These competitions encouraged creativity, communication, critical thinking, and academic excellence while providing students with a platform to showcase their talents. Outstanding participants were recognised through the SLMQ Youth Icon Award 2025, celebrating achievement and inspiring future generations.
Religious education remained an integral part of SLMQ’s educational initiatives. The Islamic Day Competition 2025, held at the Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center (FANAR), attracted more than 450 students across five age groups. Competitions in Qur’an Memorization, Du’a Recitation, and Islamic Quiz strengthened students’ understanding of Islamic teachings while fostering discipline, confidence, and moral development.
SLMQ also focused on lifelong learning and skills development through educational workshops for adults. The Ladies’ Skills Development Workshop 2025, conducted in collaboration with Austin Consulting, provided practical training in business skills, first aid, barista techniques, and professional baking. These programmes equipped participants with valuable vocational knowledge, enhancing their employability and supporting personal and professional growth.
Further supporting personal development, the Ladies’ Wellness & Communication Programme – “Vital Voices” offered sessions on emotional well-being and effective communication. The programme strengthened participants’ confidence, communication abilities, and interpersonal skills, reflecting SLMQ’s commitment to holistic education beyond the classroom.
Educational support also extended to Sri Lanka through projects that enhanced learning environments. SLMQ restored classroom furniture at Bakinigahawela Muslim Central College, installed a new waterline at MN/Periyamadhu Maha Vidyalayam, and renovated washroom facilities at MN/Zahira G.M.M.S. Alakkaddu. These improvements created safer, healthier, and more conducive environments for teaching and learning.
Another significant educational initiative was the Management Service Officers Examination Preparation Seminar, sponsored by SLMQ for more than 120 Tamil-medium applicants preparing for Sri Lanka’s state service examinations. The seminar provided examination guidance, preparation strategies, and career support, helping participants improve their employment prospects and pursue professional success.
Through student competitions, religious education, vocational training, communication and leadership workshops, school improvement projects, and examination preparation programmes, SLMQ continued to strengthen its commitment to education in 2025, empowering individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
