The year 2008 marked another successful chapter in Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s commitment to educational advancement and community development. Through scholarships, training programmes, educational resources, and student-focused initiatives, SLMQ continued to invest in empowering individuals through knowledge and learning.

One of the most significant achievements of the year was the continued implementation of the Advanced Level Scholarship Programme. Students selected under both scholarship batches continued to receive educational assistance, enabling them to pursue their studies with greater confidence and stability. Regular monitoring of student progress ensured that the programme remained effective in supporting academic success.

Recognizing the importance of vocational education and skills development, SLMQ also financed the establishment of a Vocational Training Centre for Muslim Ladies in Warakapola. Managed by the Sri Lanka Muslim Ladies’ Study Circle, this initiative created valuable opportunities for women to develop practical skills and enhance their future prospects.

Supporting religious and educational learning remained a priority throughout the year. SLMQ collaborated in sponsoring the reprinting of 100 sets of Iqraa books, including materials for Quran recitation and Tajweed studies. These resources contributed significantly to Quran education and helped strengthen Islamic learning among students.

A major educational highlight of 2008 was the sponsorship of an Island-Wide Intensive Coaching Seminar for Muslim Students preparing for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. Conducted in collaboration with the All University Muslim Students’ Association (AUMSA), the programme provided academic guidance and examination preparation support to students from different parts of Sri Lanka.

The organization also continued its well-established Quran Class Programme, offering children structured learning opportunities in Quran recitation, Islamic teachings, and moral development. The annual Quran Class Competitions, held in May 2008, encouraged students to showcase their knowledge and talents while promoting enthusiasm for learning.

Educational development was further encouraged through the 60th Sri Lanka Independence Day Competitions, which featured colouring, drawing, essay writing, and public speaking events for students. These competitions provided a platform for creativity, communication, and self-expression while fostering cultural awareness among younger generations.

Through these diverse initiatives, SLMQ reaffirmed its dedication to educational excellence and community empowerment. The achievements of 2008 demonstrated the organization's belief that education remains one of the most powerful tools for building confident individuals, stronger families, and a brighter future for the community.
