The year 2007 marked another significant chapter in Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities through meaningful charitable initiatives. Guided by the belief that sustainable development begins with supporting people in need, the organization implemented a range of assistance programmes aimed at improving access to education, strengthening community infrastructure, and providing financial relief to deserving individuals and institutions across Sri Lanka.

One of the major humanitarian commitments during the year was the continuation and expansion of the Advanced Level Scholarship Programme. Building upon the success of the first batch launched in 2006, SLMQ continued supporting twenty-five financially disadvantaged students pursuing their Advanced Level studies. Recognizing the positive impact of the programme, the organization approved a second batch of scholarships for another twenty-five students in 2007. Beyond financial assistance, regular monitoring and guidance sessions were conducted to help students remain focused on their academic goals and maximize their potential.

SLMQ also extended support to educational institutions serving underprivileged communities. Assistance was provided to Islahiyyah Arabic College in Madampe, where many students required financial support to continue their studies. Through this initiative, deserving students received sponsorship that helped reduce the financial burden on both the institution and the families it served. This contribution reflected the organization’s broader commitment to ensuring that economic challenges do not prevent individuals from pursuing their education.

Another important contribution was directed toward Zahriya Arabic College in Hemmathagama, which faced urgent infrastructure and facility-related needs. Financial assistance was provided to renovate parts of the institution and acquire essential furniture and equipment. By improving the learning environment, the project created better conditions for students and helped strengthen the institution’s ability to serve its community effectively.

Infrastructure development formed another important aspect of SLMQ’s charitable activities during the year. Recognizing the daily difficulties faced by residents in certain rural areas, the organization allocated funding for the construction of a bridge in Silmiyapura. The project was designed to improve accessibility and provide a safer and more convenient route for villagers and students. The bridge not only enhanced mobility but also contributed to stronger social and economic connectivity within the community.

In addition to institutional support, SLMQ demonstrated its commitment to individual welfare through the provision of financial assistance to a needy medical student pursuing undergraduate studies. By helping a deserving student continue higher education in the field of medicine, the organization invested in both personal development and the future wellbeing of society. Such support illustrates the long-term vision behind SLMQ’s charitable efforts, where assistance today can create lasting benefits for communities tomorrow.

What distinguished the organization’s charitable work in 2007 was its balanced approach to addressing both immediate needs and long-term development. Rather than focusing solely on short-term relief, SLMQ invested in education, infrastructure, and human potential—areas capable of generating sustainable positive outcomes for years to come.

The achievements of 2007 were made possible through the generosity of members, donors, and well-wishers who shared a common commitment to helping those in need. Their contributions enabled the organization to transform goodwill into practical action, creating opportunities for students, strengthening institutions, and improving the lives of families and communities across Sri Lanka.

Looking back, 2007 stands as a year of meaningful progress and compassionate service. Through scholarship programmes, institutional assistance, infrastructure development, and support for deserving individuals, SLMQ continued to demonstrate that collective generosity can become a powerful force for positive change. These initiatives reinforced the organization’s mission of extending hope, opportunity, and support to those who need it most.
