The year 2011 reflected Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s continued dedication to humanitarian service, as the organization strengthened its efforts to provide practical assistance to individuals and families facing economic hardship. Through carefully planned charitable initiatives, SLMQ sought to create opportunities for self-reliance while extending relief to communities affected by natural disasters.

One of the notable initiatives carried forward during the year was the Sewing Machines Project, implemented in partnership with the Young Women’s Muslim Association (YMMA) in Sri Lanka. This programme focused on empowering disadvantaged women by providing sewing machines that enabled them to earn a sustainable income and support their families. Rather than offering short-term assistance, the project promoted long-term economic independence and improved living conditions for beneficiaries.

SLMQ also responded to urgent humanitarian needs through the Flood Relief Collection Programme. Organized in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Islamic Centre (SLIC), the initiative mobilized financial contributions to support communities affected by severe flooding. The collected funds were directed towards relief efforts aimed at helping affected families recover from the devastation caused by the disaster and rebuild their lives.

These charitable interventions reflected SLMQ’s commitment to addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term community development. By supporting livelihood initiatives and disaster relief programmes, the organization continued to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and families.

The success of these projects was made possible through the generosity of members, donors, and well-wishers whose contributions enabled assistance to reach those in need. Their support reinforced the spirit of compassion and collective responsibility that has remained at the heart of SLMQ’s humanitarian mission.

Looking back, 2011 stands as a year of purposeful giving and impactful outreach. Through the Sewing Machines Project and the Flood Relief Collection Programme, Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar continued its mission of bringing hope, relief, and opportunity to communities facing hardship.
