The year 2025 was marked by compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to supporting communities facing hardship. As devastating floods and landslides affected many regions of Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ) responded with a renewed sense of purpose, mobilizing resources and collective goodwill to bring relief, recovery, and hope to those most in need.
At the heart of SLMQ’s humanitarian efforts was the SLMQ Flood Relief & Rehabilitation Fund 2025. Recognizing the immense challenges faced by displaced families and vulnerable communities, the organization dedicated a substantial portion of its resources toward relief and rehabilitation initiatives. Through the generosity of members, sponsors, and well-wishers, SLMQ worked to ensure that assistance reached affected communities in a transparent and responsible manner, helping families begin the difficult journey toward recovery.
Beyond emergency relief, SLMQ focused on sustainable projects that addressed essential community needs. One of the most impactful initiatives was the Community Well Construction Project – Radagama, Hettipola, which provided reliable access to clean water for approximately forty families. This project significantly improved daily living conditions and created a lasting source of benefit for the entire village.
Economic empowerment also remained a key priority throughout the year. Through the Self-Employment Support Program, financial assistance was provided to deserving individuals, including widows, low-income families, and converts to Islam. These contributions enabled beneficiaries to establish or strengthen small businesses, helping them achieve greater financial independence and long-term stability.
In addition, the Widows’ Sewing Project offered practical support by distributing sewing machines and essential tailoring accessories to widowed women. This initiative empowered recipients with sustainable income-generating opportunities, allowing them to support their families with dignity while building confidence and self-reliance.
SLMQ’s commitment to humanitarian service extended to healthcare-related improvements through the Clinic Renovation Project – MN/Periyamadhu, where critical infrastructure upgrades enhanced comfort and safety for expectant mothers and patients. Such projects demonstrated the organization’s dedication to improving the quality of life for vulnerable communities through practical and meaningful interventions.
The achievements of 2025 reflect the true spirit of charity—not only providing immediate relief during times of crisis but also creating pathways for sustainable development and empowerment. Through the SLMQ Flood Relief & Rehabilitation Fund 2025, Community Well Construction Project, Self-Employment Support Program, and Widows’ Sewing Project, SLMQ continued to make a lasting difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.
As communities continue to recover and rebuild, the humanitarian efforts of 2025 stand as a powerful testament to the impact of collective generosity, compassion, and service.
