The year 2017 reflected Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s continued commitment to meaningful humanitarian service, focusing on initiatives that created sustainable change for vulnerable families. Rather than limiting support to short-term aid, SLMQ concentrated on empowering beneficiaries with opportunities that would help them achieve long-term financial independence and stability.
A landmark achievement during the year was the successful completion of the Women’s Livelihood Assistance Project, implemented in collaboration with Muslim Aid. This initiative was designed to support deserving women who were single or widowed breadwinners struggling to provide for their families. Through carefully planned assistance, beneficiaries received resources and support aimed at improving their earning capacity and establishing reliable sources of income.
The impact of the Women’s Livelihood Assistance Project extended far beyond financial assistance. By enabling women to develop sustainable livelihoods, the project restored confidence, strengthened family resilience, and provided a pathway toward self-sufficiency. A total of twenty-five families benefited from the initiative, gaining opportunities that could positively influence their futures for years to come.
The project embodied SLMQ’s vision of charity as a tool for lasting transformation. Rather than offering temporary relief alone, the initiative addressed the root challenges faced by vulnerable households, helping beneficiaries build stable and independent lives. The positive outcomes demonstrated how targeted humanitarian efforts can create meaningful and enduring change within communities.
The success of this initiative was made possible through the generosity of donors, volunteers, supporters, and partner organizations whose contributions turned compassion into action. Their dedication ensured that assistance reached those who needed it most and helped strengthen the spirit of collective responsibility within the community.
As 2017 concluded, the achievements of the Women’s Livelihood Assistance Project stood as a powerful example of sustainable humanitarian service. Through this initiative, SLMQ reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting disadvantaged families, proving that charity can do more than provide relief—it can create opportunities, restore dignity, and inspire hope for a better future.
