The year 2009 reflected Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s continued commitment to building a strong and supportive community through initiatives that promoted unity, social responsibility, and mutual care. While serving Sri Lankan families in Qatar and supporting projects in Sri Lanka, SLMQ focused on creating opportunities for people to come together, contribute to society, and strengthen the bonds that connect communities. The year's activities demonstrated that community welfare extends beyond financial assistance and includes creating a sense of belonging, shared responsibility, and collective growth.

One of the most meaningful community initiatives of the year was the Beach Cleaning Programme in Wakrah, organized in collaboration with local authorities and supported by community members and their families. The event brought together volunteers of all ages to participate in environmental conservation while promoting civic responsibility and teamwork. The programme not only contributed to maintaining a cleaner environment but also encouraged families to engage in a community service activity that benefited the wider public.

A notable welfare-oriented event during the year was the Reverts Felicitation Programme, where SLMQ welcomed and honoured more than forty individuals who had recently embraced Islam. The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and connect with members of the wider community. Gifts were distributed and friendships were formed, helping create an environment of inclusion, support, and encouragement for those beginning a new chapter in their lives.

Community unity remained a central focus through the organization of several Ifthar Programmes, including the SLMQ Family Ifthar, Embassy Ifthar, and a large community Ifthar organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior. These gatherings brought together hundreds of Sri Lankan Muslims living in Qatar and provided opportunities for families, friends, and community members to strengthen relationships while sharing the spirit of Ramadan. The events fostered a sense of togetherness and reinforced the values of compassion, generosity, and mutual support.

The annual Eid Fiesta continued to be one of the most anticipated community gatherings of the year. Bringing together families, children, and members from across the community, the event created a vibrant atmosphere filled with recreational activities, games, and social interaction. More than a celebration, the programme strengthened community ties and provided families living away from their homeland with an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and create lasting memories together.

SLMQ’s commitment to community welfare also extended to Sri Lanka through several development-oriented initiatives. Financial assistance was provided for the construction of a boundary wall at Zahiriya Arabic College in Hemmathagama, helping address safety and infrastructure needs within the community. Support was also extended for the construction of toilet facilities at Maho Atawarala Mosque, improving access to essential facilities for worshippers and community members. These projects reflected SLMQ’s broader vision of supporting community well-being through practical and sustainable improvements.

Throughout the year, SLMQ continued to demonstrate that meaningful community welfare is built through service, inclusion, and collective effort. Whether through environmental initiatives, community gatherings, support programmes, or infrastructure projects, the organization remained dedicated to strengthening relationships and improving the quality of life of the communities it served. The achievements of 2009 further reinforced SLMQ’s role as a trusted community organization committed to fostering unity, compassion, and positive social impact.
