The year 2016 was marked by initiatives that focused on improving lives through practical support and long-term empowerment. While continuing its commitment to serving the Sri Lankan community in Qatar, Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ) also extended its efforts to support vulnerable individuals and families in Sri Lanka through projects aimed at creating sustainable change. The year's activities reflected the belief that meaningful assistance is most effective when it helps people build a better future for themselves and their families.

One of the most significant initiatives undertaken during the year was the Women’s Livelihood Development Project, implemented in partnership with Muslim Aid Sri Lanka. The project focused on assisting widowed and single women who carried the responsibility of supporting their households. By providing resources and opportunities to improve their earning capacity, the initiative helped beneficiaries move towards greater financial independence and stability. Rather than offering temporary relief, the project was designed to create lasting benefits for families facing economic hardship.

Another notable contribution was the support provided to the CSM School for Special Needs Building Project in Akurana. The organization contributed towards the completion of a building block for the school, helping improve facilities for children with special needs. The project reflected a commitment to supporting institutions that serve some of the most vulnerable members of society and provide essential care and assistance to their families.

The year also witnessed the successful organization of the Ramadan Bazaar 2016, a community-focused initiative that brought together families, entrepreneurs, and visitors in a vibrant and welcoming environment. Beyond being a social gathering, the bazaar created opportunities for small-scale vendors and home-based businesses to showcase their products and generate income. The event encouraged community participation while supporting individuals engaged in small business activities.

Throughout the year, various family-oriented gatherings and community programmes continued to strengthen relationships among Sri Lankan families living in Qatar. These events provided opportunities for people to connect, support one another, and build a stronger sense of belonging while living away from their homeland. Such programmes played an important role in fostering unity and maintaining strong social ties within the community.

The activities of 2016 demonstrated how targeted support and collective effort can create meaningful change. Whether empowering women through livelihood opportunities, improving facilities for children with special needs, or creating platforms that supported small businesses and family engagement, each initiative contributed towards improving the lives of individuals and strengthening the communities they belonged to. The year served as another reminder that lasting impact is often achieved through practical actions that address real needs and create opportunities for growth.
