The year 2004 represented another meaningful chapter in the journey of Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ), as the organization continued to expand its commitment to community welfare both in Qatar and Sri Lanka. Guided by the principles of compassion, solidarity, and service, SLMQ focused on initiatives that addressed the practical needs of vulnerable families while fostering stronger connections among community members. The year's achievements reflected an organization that was steadily transforming goodwill into meaningful action.

One of the most significant welfare contributions during the year was the continuation of support for displaced and underprivileged communities in Sri Lanka. Recognizing the challenges faced by families affected by conflict and economic hardship, SLMQ extended financial assistance to help repair damaged homes and improve living conditions. These efforts provided relief to families struggling to rebuild their lives and demonstrated the organization's commitment to supporting communities beyond national borders.

SLMQ also continued its assistance to families affected by ethnic violence who had suffered the loss of their homes and livelihoods. By providing financial support to selected families, the organization helped ease some of the burdens faced by those experiencing difficult circumstances. Such initiatives reflected a deep sense of social responsibility and highlighted the importance of standing with vulnerable communities during times of need.

Another impactful welfare programme focused on supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Financial assistance was provided to help schoolchildren obtain essential footwear, enabling them to continue their education with greater comfort and dignity. While simple in nature, this initiative addressed a genuine need and demonstrated how small acts of support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and their families.

The organization also contributed towards community infrastructure projects by providing financial assistance for the purchase of a janaza sanduk (coffin) for a mosque in Sri Lanka. This contribution served a practical community need and reflected SLMQ’s broader commitment to supporting essential services that benefit the wider Muslim community.

Beyond financial assistance, SLMQ continued to strengthen social welfare through programmes that brought families together and nurtured a sense of belonging. The annual Iftar gathering during Ramadan once again provided an opportunity for Sri Lankan Muslim families living in Qatar to share the blessings of the holy month in an atmosphere of friendship and unity. The gathering strengthened relationships within the community and reinforced the values of generosity, mutual support, and togetherness.

Community engagement was further enhanced through family-oriented events that encouraged participation across all age groups. Social gatherings and recreational activities created opportunities for members to build friendships, strengthen community bonds, and celebrate their shared heritage while living abroad. These occasions played an important role in fostering a supportive environment where families could connect, collaborate, and support one another.

The annual Umrah pilgrimage programme continued to be one of SLMQ’s most valued initiatives. By facilitating the pilgrimage for community members and families, the organization provided an opportunity for spiritual enrichment while simultaneously strengthening relationships among participants. The shared experience created lasting bonds and further reinforced the sense of unity that defines the SLMQ community.

Throughout the year, SLMQ remained committed to its vision of creating a caring and connected community. Its welfare efforts demonstrated that meaningful impact can be achieved through a combination of humanitarian assistance, community engagement, and collective responsibility. Whether supporting families in Sri Lanka, assisting children in need, facilitating community gatherings, or strengthening social networks in Qatar, each initiative contributed to the organization's broader mission of uplifting lives and fostering unity.

The achievements of 2004 highlighted the growing maturity of SLMQ as a community organization. More than simply delivering assistance, the organization continued to cultivate a culture of compassion, service, and solidarity. These efforts strengthened the bonds between members and laid an even stronger foundation for the welfare initiatives that would continue to expand in the years ahead.
