The year 2014 stood as a significant chapter in the journey of Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar, marked by initiatives that promoted religious values, cultural identity, and peaceful coexistence. Through meaningful gatherings and thought-provoking discussions, the organization continued to strengthen bonds among community members while encouraging greater understanding across diverse backgrounds.

A defining event of the year was the SLMQ Symposium 2014, organized under the theme “Co-Existence Among Communities.” The symposium brought together members, families, and distinguished guests to reflect on the importance of unity, mutual respect, and peaceful engagement within a multicultural society. The event served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on fostering harmony among different communities while preserving cultural and religious values.

The symposium featured a keynote address by Dr. Jehan Perera, Executive Director of the National Peace Council of Sri Lanka. His presentation, “The Importance of Peaceful Engagement – The Muslim Example,” highlighted the longstanding tradition of coexistence among Sri Lanka’s diverse communities and emphasized the role of dialogue, understanding, and cooperation in building a peaceful society. The address encouraged participants to appreciate pluralism and contribute positively to strengthening inter-community relationships.

Throughout the year, SLMQ continued its efforts to nurture an environment where cultural heritage and religious values could be celebrated together. Community gatherings provided opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and reinforce the spirit of brotherhood that has remained central to the organization since its establishment. These occasions helped preserve Sri Lankan traditions while fostering a strong sense of belonging among expatriates living in Qatar.

The theme of coexistence resonated strongly with the broader Sri Lankan community, particularly during a period when unity and mutual understanding were of great importance. Discussions during the symposium highlighted the contributions of Sri Lankan Muslims to the nation's social and cultural fabric and underscored the value of maintaining positive relationships across ethnic and religious boundaries.

By bringing together community members around the shared ideals of respect, dialogue, and cooperation, SLMQ Symposium 2014 reinforced the organization's commitment to promoting harmony and strengthening communal ties. The year's activities reflected a vision of inclusiveness and peaceful engagement, ensuring that cultural traditions and religious principles continued to inspire unity among Sri Lankans in Qatar.
