The year 2016 marked a significant milestone for Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar as the organization celebrated its 15th year of service under the inspiring theme “Enriching Lives.” The year’s religious and cultural initiatives reflected a continued commitment to nurturing faith, strengthening Islamic values, and fostering a deeper sense of spiritual responsibility among members of the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Qatar.

A major highlight of the year was the SLMQ Symposium 2016, which brought together members, families, and distinguished guests for an evening of reflection and inspiration. The symposium emphasized the role of Muslims in enriching lives through righteousness, compassion, and positive contributions to society. Guided by Islamic teachings, the event encouraged participants to uphold moral values and strive for personal and collective growth in their daily lives.

The symposium featured a keynote address by Sheikh Mirza Yawar Baig, whose thought-provoking presentation inspired attendees to reflect on the responsibilities of believers in serving humanity while remaining steadfast in faith. His message highlighted the importance of character, sincerity, and purposeful living as essential elements of a successful Muslim life.

Religious learning and spiritual development continued throughout the year with a series of Islamic Lectures by Ash Sheikh Mufti Yoosuf Haneefa. These gatherings provided valuable opportunities for members to deepen their understanding of Islamic teachings, strengthen their connection with faith, and engage in meaningful discussions on contemporary issues from an Islamic perspective.

Another notable initiative was the three-day “Zakat and its Principles” Workshop, conducted by Imam Mohamed Abid Khan. The program offered participants a deeper appreciation of one of Islam’s fundamental pillars, exploring the significance of Zakat in promoting social justice, compassion, and responsibility within the Muslim community. The workshop attracted participants from diverse backgrounds and served as a platform for enriching religious knowledge and understanding.

The spirit of Ramadan was also celebrated through the inaugural Ramadan Bazaar 2016, which brought together families in a vibrant atmosphere reflecting the values of sharing, togetherness, and preparation for the blessed month. The event strengthened cultural ties within the community while creating opportunities for meaningful interaction among members and their families.

Throughout the year, these initiatives reinforced the values of faith, unity, and spiritual growth that have guided Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar since its inception. By promoting religious awareness and preserving cultural identity, the organization continued to enrich the lives of its members while strengthening the bonds that unite the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Qatar.
