The year 2018 marked a significant milestone in the journey of Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar as it celebrated its 17th Annual Symposium under the inspiring theme “Together Towards Tomorrow.” At a time when unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence were increasingly important, the organization focused its efforts on fostering spiritual growth and strengthening bonds within the community through meaningful religious initiatives.
One of the most notable religious gatherings of the year was the series of Ramadan Ifthar Programs, which brought together members of the Sri Lankan Muslim community in an atmosphere of brotherhood and reflection. These gatherings provided an opportunity for worshippers to strengthen their connection with Allah while reinforcing the values of compassion, gratitude, and unity that define the blessed month of Ramadan. Alongside these events, a series of Tafseer Classes were conducted, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and their relevance to daily life.
Religious learning continued throughout the year with a series of lectures delivered by Ash-Sheikh Mufti Yousuf Haniffa during November 2017. His presentations, including the lecture on “Kinship in Islam and Its Importance,” emphasized the value of maintaining strong family and community relationships in accordance with Islamic principles. These sessions encouraged attendees to reflect on their responsibilities towards relatives, neighbours, and society while strengthening their commitment to Islamic ethics and values.
Another significant spiritual programme was the lecture “Youth Around Our Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)”, delivered by Ash-Sheikh Abu Haniffa in January 2018. The lecture highlighted the inspiring role played by young companions during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and encouraged contemporary youth to follow their example of dedication, sincerity, and service. The programme served as a reminder of the vital role young Muslims play in shaping the future of the Ummah.
A major highlight of the year was Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar’s involvement in the Seerah Conference 2018, held in Doha. The conference brought together internationally renowned Islamic scholars, including Mufti Ismail Menk, for inspiring discussions on the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Through thought-provoking lectures and reflections, participants gained valuable insights into the timeless lessons of the Seerah and their application in modern life.
The year’s activities reflected the spirit of the theme “Together Towards Tomorrow,” emphasizing unity, faith, and mutual understanding. Through lectures, Ramadan programmes, Qur’anic learning sessions, and large-scale religious gatherings, Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar continued its mission of nurturing a spiritually connected community while promoting harmony and Islamic values among its members.
As the organization moved forward, the initiatives of 2018 demonstrated that a stronger future can be built when communities come together in faith, knowledge, and shared purpose.
