The year 2010 marked another significant chapter in the educational mission of Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ). Through scholarships, academic assistance programmes, leadership development initiatives, and religious education activities, the organization continued its commitment to empowering students and nurturing future leaders both in Sri Lanka and Qatar.

A major achievement during the year was the continuation of the Educational Support Programme through the Al Huda Fund. SLMQ provided financial assistance to five students pursuing higher education in various academic disciplines. These scholarships helped deserving students continue their studies and work towards their professional aspirations without the burden of financial constraints.

In addition to higher education assistance, SLMQ supported several G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level seminar programmes conducted in different parts of Sri Lanka. These seminars provided valuable academic guidance and examination preparation for students, helping them improve their performance and expand their educational opportunities.

Recognizing the importance of holistic student development, SLMQ sponsored a Leadership Development Programme for 25 students of Stafford International School in Qatar. Conducted by a prominent Toastmaster, the programme focused on communication skills, confidence building, teamwork, and leadership qualities, equipping students with essential skills for future success.

Another noteworthy contribution was SLMQ’s support for Islamic and Arabic education within the Sri Lankan community in Qatar. The organization sponsored an Islamic and Arabic Studies teacher for Stafford International School by contributing towards the teacher’s salary for an entire year. This initiative ensured that students received quality religious and language education alongside their regular academic curriculum.

The annual 62nd Independence Day Competitions also played an important role in promoting educational excellence and creativity among children. More than one hundred participants took part in drawing, colouring, essay writing, and prepared speech competitions across various age categories. These activities encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and public speaking skills while strengthening cultural awareness among young Sri Lankans living in Qatar.

The SLMQ Quran Class Programme, one of the organization’s longest-running educational initiatives, successfully completed its ninth consecutive year in 2010. Classes were conducted twice weekly, providing structured instruction in Quran recitation, Tajweed, Islamic studies, and moral education. The programme continued to attract students from diverse backgrounds and remained a cornerstone of SLMQ’s educational activities.

To further motivate students and showcase their talents, SLMQ organized the 6th Annual Quran Class Competition. Nearly 55 students participated in events such as Quran recitation, memorization, Islamic speeches, Islamic quizzes, and calligraphy competitions. The event fostered confidence, healthy competition, and a deeper appreciation of Islamic learning among participants.

Through its comprehensive educational initiatives, SLMQ demonstrated its unwavering commitment to academic achievement, leadership development, and religious education during 2010. By investing in students and creating opportunities for learning and personal growth, the organization continued to contribute meaningfully to the development of future generations.
