The year 2016 marked another significant milestone in Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ)’s commitment to advancing education and empowering young minds through creative learning, academic support, and personal development initiatives.
One of the most notable educational achievements of the year was the introduction of the Young Muslim Writers Awards, organized in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Muslim Professionals’ Forum Qatar. The programme encouraged young people to develop their writing skills through poetry, narrative writing, and fiction, providing a platform for creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression while nurturing the next generation of writers and thinkers.
SLMQ also continued its long-standing tradition of organizing the annual Independence Day Competitions, where children participated in public speaking, essay writing, drawing, colouring, and other educational contests. These activities promoted creativity, communication skills, confidence, and healthy competition while strengthening cultural awareness among young Sri Lankans living in Qatar.
Educational support extended beyond Qatar through scholarship assistance for deserving students in Sri Lanka, helping them continue their studies and pursue higher education. In addition, SLMQ contributed towards the completion of a school building project for children with special needs, reaffirming its commitment to improving access to quality education for all.
The organization further strengthened its focus on lifelong learning by conducting educational workshops and knowledge-sharing programmes. These initiatives provided valuable opportunities for personal development, learning, and awareness, encouraging participants to expand their knowledge while fostering intellectual and moral growth.
Through creative writing programmes, scholarships, educational competitions, institutional support, and learning initiatives, SLMQ continued to invest in education during 2016, empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to build a brighter future.
