The year 2017 marked a significant chapter in the journey of Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ) as the organization adopted the theme “Empowering Our Youth.” Recognizing that young people are the foundation of future communities, SLMQ dedicated its educational initiatives to nurturing talent, expanding opportunities, and inspiring youth to pursue excellence in every sphere of life.

Throughout the year, SLMQ organized a range of educational programmes designed to develop knowledge, creativity, leadership, and confidence among young people. These initiatives reflected the belief that empowering youth requires not only academic support but also opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and community engagement.

One of the most prominent educational events of the year was the Independence Day Competitions, conducted for Sri Lankan children residing in Qatar. The competitions included essay writing, public speaking, drawing, and colouring, providing participants with valuable opportunities to enhance their communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills. The event also encouraged healthy competition and helped children build confidence while showcasing their talents.

Educational enrichment was further strengthened through a series of motivational and knowledge-sharing programmes. Renowned speakers delivered lectures focusing on personal development, success, and youth empowerment. Programmes such as “The Three I’s for Ultimate Success” inspired participants to pursue excellence through sincerity, knowledge, discipline, and perseverance. These sessions encouraged young people to dream boldly and work towards meaningful goals.

SLMQ also continued its commitment to supporting education in Sri Lanka through scholarship and vocational training initiatives. Working closely with partner organizations, the association contributed towards educational assistance for deserving students, enabling them to continue higher studies and acquire professional skills. These efforts helped create opportunities for young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to improve their futures through education.

In addition to scholarships, SLMQ invested in educational infrastructure development. A classroom project was completed for Fathima Balika Vidyalaya in Badulla, providing improved learning facilities for primary school students in a remote area. This initiative reflected the organization’s dedication to creating better educational environments for children who face challenges in accessing quality resources.

Another notable educational initiative was the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) Seminar conducted in Puttalam. The seminar guided aspiring candidates preparing for competitive government service examinations and provided valuable insights into public sector career opportunities. By encouraging youth to pursue leadership and service-oriented careers, the programme aimed to contribute to the long-term development of society.

The theme “Empowering Our Youth” was evident in every educational activity undertaken during the year. From competitions and lectures to scholarships, vocational training, and school development projects, each initiative was designed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become responsible and successful members of society.

As SLMQ reflected on the achievements of 2017, the year stood as a testament to the transformative power of education. By investing in youth development and creating opportunities for learning and growth, the organization continued its mission of building a stronger and more empowered future generation.
